The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a student-centered programme that aims at the personality development of students through community service. Education is not merely the acquisition of knowledge but also the development of socially responsible citizens.
NSS provides students with opportunities to serve society while developing leadership, teamwork, social awareness, and civic responsibility.
National Service Scheme was formally launched on 24 September 1969,
commemorating the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.
Since then, NSS has played a significant role in promoting community engagement and social service among students across the country. Every year, 24 September is observed as NSS Day.
The motto of NSS is "Not Me But You". It reflects the spirit of
selfless service and democratic living, emphasizing the importance of understanding and appreciating the needs of others. The programme encourages volunteers to place community welfare above personal interests and to contribute positively to society.
The NSS symbol is based on the Rath Wheel of the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha. The wheel represents the cycle of creation, preservation, and release, symbolizing continuous movement and progress through dedicated service to humanity.
NSS activities are broadly classified into two categories:
NSS Unit No. 163 of the college functions under the Technical Cell of the National Service Scheme. The unit actively engages students in a wide range of social, environmental, and community development initiatives throughout the academic year.
Through its various programmes and activities, NSS helps students develop leadership qualities, social commitment, and a sense of responsibility towards the community. It serves as an effective link between the institution and society, promoting the ideals of responsible citizenship and nation-building.
